KEY SHELLS FAQ's
What is a Chipless Key Shell?

A Chipless Key Shell is a type of transponder key shell that does not have a chip inside. It is used to replace a broken or damaged key shell without changing the chip. A Chipless Key Shell can be cut to fit a specific lock and then inserted into an existing key with a chip. This way, the key can still be recognized by the car’s immobilizer system. A Chipless Key Shell can also be used for testing purposes or as a backup key.

What are the types of Chipless Key Shell?

  • Laser Chipless Key: This type of key shell has a laser-cut groove on one or both sides of the key blade.
  • Normal Key Shell: This type of key shell has a regular-cut groove on one or both sides of the key blade.
  • Double Side Key Shell: This type of key shell has grooves on both sides of the key blade that are different from each other.
  • Tubular Key Shell: This type of key shell has a circular shape with pins on the edge of the key blade
  • Remote Head Key Shell: This type of key shell has a remote control attached to the key blade that can operate the car’s functions such as locking and unlocking.
  • Smart Key Shell: This type of key shell has a smart chip inside that can communicate with the car’s immobilizer system without inserting the key into the ignition.
What are the signs of a worn key?

  • The edges are becoming slightly rounded instead of sharp and crisp.
  • The key might appear slightly warped or even misshapen.
  • The metal is badly scratched and appears dull.
  • It doesn't fit in the lock the way it used to.
