KEY BLANKS & MACHINES FAQ's
What are key blanks?

The term "key blanks" refers to keys that have not been cut to a specified bitting. They feature a unique cross-sectional profile that corresponds to the keyway in the matching lock cylinder. Key blanks can be used for a variety of keys, including residential, business, car, watercraft, and furniture keys.

How are key blanks cut?

Keys are cut with a machine called a key duplicator. Your original key is placed in a vice on one side of the key duplicator, lined up with the cutting tool (or blade), and a blank key is placed in a vice on the side of the machine that contains the alignment tool. You can get the best machines in the market like NOMAD, BERNA SEMI-AUTOMATIC, and VIENNA SMART AUTOMATIC KEY MACHINE By JMA

What are the signs of a worn key?

  • The edges are becoming slightly rounded instead of sharp and crisp.
  • The key might appear slightly warped or even misshapen.
  • The metal is badly scratched and appears dull.
  • It doesn't fit in the lock the way it used to.
How does a key machine work?

Key-cutting machines operate on the 'copy' concept. While you trace the teeth of one key with the key-cutting machine, a separate section of the machine grinds the duplicate teeth into the blank key that is being made.
