BRICK JOINTER FAQ's
What is a Brick Jointer?

A brick jointer is a tool used to shape and finish the mortar joints between bricks or stones. It is a metal rod that has a curved or pointed end that can be inserted into the joint and moved along to create a smooth and uniform appearance. A brick jointer can also help to compress the mortar and make it more resistant to water and weathering.

What are the different types of Brick Jointers?

There are different types of brick jointers depending on the shape and size of the end. Some of the common types are:

  • Flat jointer: This has a flat end that can create a flush or recessed joint. It can be single-sided or double-sided with different widths on each side.
  • Convex jointer: This has a rounded end that can create a concave or curved joint. It can also be single-sided or double-sided with different diameters on each side.
  • Grapevine jointer: This has a V-shaped end that can create a V-shaped groove in the joint. It can also have a serrated edge to create a textured effect.
  • Sled runner: This has a half-round end that can create a half-round groove in the joint. It can also have a handle and a wheel to make it easier to use on long joints.
How to use Brick Jointer?

  • Choose a shape and style of brick jointer that suits your project and preference. There are different types of brick jointers such as flat, convex, V-shaped, grapevine, or rake-out.
  • Determine the correct size of the brick jointer that matches the gap between your bricks. Measure the gap and choose a brick jointer that has a similar width.
  • Make sure your bricks are already cut to size and laid with mortar. Wait until the mortar is slightly set but still soft enough to be shaped.
  • Hold the brick jointer in one hand and guide it along the mortar joint between the bricks. Use the curved or pointed end of the tool to smooth and compact the mortar. Apply even and continuous pressure and avoid digging into the mortar too deeply.
  • Repeat the process for all the joints until they are finished. You can use different brick jointers for horizontal and vertical joints if you want to create different effects.
  • Clean any excess mortar from the brick faces and edges using a trowel or a brush.
  • Clean your brick jointer after each use and store it properly.
