CORDLESS DRILL FAQ's
What is a Cordless Drill?

A cordless drill is a useful power tool that can help you perform a wide variety of tasks, such as drilling holes, driving screws, or assembling furniture. It is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which makes it more portable and convenient than a corded drill. A cordless drill is sized according to voltage, for example, 12V, 14.4V, and 18V. Drills with a higher voltage are more powerful and have a lot of features but are bigger and heavier than those with lower voltages.

What are the types of Cordless Drill?

  • Drill drivers: These are the most common and versatile type of cordless drills. They can drill holes and drive fasteners in wood, plastic, and thin metals.
  • Impact drivers: These are similar to drill drivers, but they have more torque and a hexagonal chuck that accepts only impact-rated bits. They are designed to drive long screws and bolts into hard materials without stripping or camming out.
  • Hammer drills: These are like drill drivers, but they have a hammering mechanism that delivers concussive force to the drill bit while it rotates. They are used to drill through masonry materials like brick, concrete, and stone.
  • Cordless screwdrivers: These are small and lightweight drills that have low power and speed. They are used for light-duty tasks like assembling furniture, hanging pictures, or tightening screws.
How to Use Cordless Drill?

  • Use proper safety gear: You should always wear eye protection (goggles or safety glasses) when using a cordless drill, as well as gloves, ear plugs, and dust mask if necessary. You should also keep loose clothing, hair, or jewelry away from moving parts.
  • Charge the battery: You should always have a full battery and charge it with the appropriate type of charger. You should also avoid overcharging or overheating the battery, as this can damage it or cause a fire.
  • Select the right bit: You should choose the right drill bit for the material and task you are working on. For example, you should use wood bits for wood, metal bits for metal, and masonry bits for brick or concrete. You should also make sure the bit is sharp and clean.
  • Insert the bit: To insert the bit into the cordless drill, you need to loosen the chuck jaws by holding the drill handle with one hand while rotating the sleeve anticlockwise with the other hand. Then you need to place the bit as deep as it goes and tighten the sleeve by rotating it clockwise. You can also use a key to lock the chuck if your drill has one.
  • Adjust the settings: You should adjust the speed, torque, and mode settings according to your needs. The speed setting controls how fast the bit rotates, and you can choose between low and high speeds depending on the material and task. The torque setting controls how much force the drill applies to the bit, and you can choose between different levels depending on how tight you want to drive the screws. The mode setting controls what function the drill performs, and you can choose between drill mode (for drilling holes), drive mode (for driving screws), and hammer mode (for drilling into masonry).
  • Drill or drive: To drill or drive with your cordless drill, you need to hold it firmly with both hands and align it with the mark or hole you want to make. You need to apply gentle but steady pressure on the trigger and let the drill do the work. You should not force or push too hard, as this can damage the bit or the material. You should also stop periodically to clear away any debris or dust from the hole or screw.
