What are Aviation Snips?

Aviation snips are hand tools that are designed for cutting sheet metal and other tough materials. They are also known as compound action snips because they have two pivot points that increase the leverage and force applied. Aviation snips can cut straight or curved lines, depending on the angle of the blades.

What is the color-coded for Aviation Snips?
     
  • Yellow: These snips can cut straight or slightly curved lines, either left or right. They are good for cutting notches on the edge of sheets.
  • Red: These snips can cut straight or tight left curves. The waste material will exit on the left side and curl out of the way.
  • Green: These snips can cut straight or tight right curves. The waste material will exit on the right side and curl out of the way.
What are the Types of Aviation Snips?
     
  • Straight-cut aviation snips: These have yellow handles and can cut straight or slightly curved lines, either left or right. They are good for cutting notches on the edge of sheets.
  • Left-cut aviation snips: These have red handles and can cut straight or tight left curves. The waste material will exit on the left side and curl out of the way.
  • Right-cut aviation snips: These have green handles and can cut straight or tight right curves. The waste material will exit on the right side and curl out of the way.
  • Long-cut aviation snips: These have longer bladed than the standard straight snips and can make long straight cuts and large diameter curves, either left or right.
  • Bulldog cut aviation snipsThese have shorter blades and are ideal for cutting out notches or working on the trim.
  • Offset aviation snips: These have blades that are angled away from the handles and are designed to cut curved metal.
  • Utility cut aviation snips: These have serrated blades that can grip slippery materials and are suitable for cutting vinyl siding, aluminum, and plastic.
  • Right-angle aviation snips: These have blades that are perpendicular to the handles and are useful for cutting in tight spaces or corners.
