TORX SCREWDRIVER FAQ's
What is a Torx Screwdriver?

A Torx screwdriver is a tool that has a six-pointed star-shaped tip that fits into a corresponding recess on the head of a Torx screw. Torx screws are commonly found on automobiles, motorcycles, bicycle brake systems, hard disk drives, computer systems, and consumer electronics. A Torx screwdriver allows for higher torque and resistance to come out than a conventional hex or Phillips screwdriver. A Torx screwdriver can have different sizes and types, such as T10, T15, T20, T25, and T30. A Torx screwdriver can also have features such as security or tamper-proof tips, which have a pin in the center of the star shape to prevent unauthorized removal of screws.

What are the types of Torx Screwdrivers?

  • Standard Torx: These have a six-pointed star-shaped tip that fits into a corresponding recess on the head of a Torx screw. They are used for various applications that require high torque and resistance to come out.
  • Tamper-resistant Torx: These have a six-pointed star-shaped tip with a small pin in the center that fits into a hole on the head of a tamper-resistant Torx screw. They are designed to prevent the unauthorized removal of screws that secure devices or components.
  • Security Torx: These have a six-pointed star-shaped tip with a circular indentation in the center that fits over a pin on the head of a security Torx screw. They are an improved version of tamper resistant Torx that offers more contact area and less wear.
  • Torx Plus: These have a six-pointed star-shaped tip with curved sides that fit into a matching recess on the head of a Torx Plus screw. They are an improved version of standard Torx that offers more torque and longer life.
  • Torx Paralobe: These have a six-pointed star-shaped tip with three lobes that fit into a matching recess on the head of a Torx Paralobe screw. They are an improved version of Torx Plus that offers more torque and stability.
  • Torx ttap: These have a six-pointed star-shaped tip with a flat top that fits into a matching recess on the head of a Torx ttap screw. They are an improved version of Torx Paralobe that offers more torque and alignment.
How to use Torx Screwdrivers?

  • Select the appropriate Torx screwdriver for your project. Make sure it matches the size and shape of the Torx screw head. Torx screwdrivers come in sizes ranging from T1 to T100, with higher numbers indicating larger sizes.
  • Align the tip of the Torx screwdriver with the star pattern on the screw head and insert it into the recess. The tip should fit snugly and securely into the screw head.
  • Turn the Torx screwdriver in the desired direction to loosen or tighten the screw. To loosen the screw, turn counterclockwise; to tighten the screw, turn clockwise. Apply steady pressure and avoid over-tightening or stripping the screw.
  • Remove the Torx screwdriver from the screw head when done. If you want to remove the screw completely, keep turning counterclockwise until it comes out. If you want to secure the screw, keep turning it clockwise until it feels tight.
